UPDATE: Hurricane Matthew Hits Defenseless Haiti

This past Tuesday, Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti, and is now starting to reach the United States. According to the National Hurricane Center, the hurricane is now considered a Category 4 hurricane with 140 mph winds and 165 mph gusts. As of yesterday, Hurricane Matthew was located 180 miles southeast of West Palm Beach and is expected to hit Florida’s east coast Thursday night or early Friday morning. While the storm was traveling through the Caribbean, at least 269 people have been killed. Authorities have recently urged more than 2 million Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina residents to leave their homes and evacuate. Florida Governor Rick Scott warned Florida’s residents by saying, “This is serious… If you need to evacuate and you haven’t, evacuate. This storm will kill you.”
