Patient Zero has Zero Involvement with HIV/Aids
Recently, scientists are reevaluating previous claims to how HIV/Aids became prevalent in the United States. An international team of researchers has discovered that the virus came from an already existing epidemic in the Caribbean that arrived in New York by the early 70’s. This means that Gaetan Dugas, or “Patient zero,” the French-Canadian flight attendant that is coined as the one who brought over the virus, was not the first person in the United States to be infected. It was believed that Dugas was a major factor in the spread of HIV/Aids, but the authors of the study confirm that he was not the source of the North American HIV/Aids pandemic.
