Bartella Recaptured from ISIS
Earlier this week, government forces recaptured Bartella, which is part of a crucial gateway to ISIS’s key stronghold in Iraq, Mosul. Bartella is an Assyrian Chrisitan-dominated town and when it was officially liberated from ISIS, church bells rang for the first time in two-plus years since the invasion of the Islamic State. After ISIS took over Bartella in 2014, they started burning Christian scripture and taking down all of the crosses in the town. Most of the Christians in Bartella left for their safety, but are returning with the news of the liberation, which is cause for their celebration.
