6900 Refugees Evicted From Calais Camp
French authorities have announced the impending demolition of the Calais “Jungle” camp and the evictions of 6900 refugees who live there. Evictions are set to begin Monday, causing panic for many refugees who have nowhere else to turn. Refugees have been told they have two options: to return to their home country, or to seek asylum somewhere else in France. Few can return home due to war and violence, but are hesitant to remain in France because their real destination is another country, such as Britain. As of now, the camp is in a state of unrest, with over a thousand police officers patrolling in order to keep riots at bay.
