Gender Equality for Diaper Duty
President Obama has just recently signed the Bathrooms Accessible in Every Situation Act, or the BABIES Act. The act requires diaper-changing stations in both male and female restrooms in public federal facilities. While installing changing tables in restrooms is a small task, it signals progress in gender equality, providing both parents equal opportunity to take part in childcare. Representative David Cicilline, the Democrat from Rhode Island that proposed the bill, says the bill will prevent unsanitary conditions that come from the lack of a proper changing station in certain bathrooms. The house passed this bill by a vote of 389 to 34 in September.
