And the Winner Is . . .
Colombian president Juan Santos was presented with the Nobel Peace Prize on October 7th. He is recognized for his ceaseless attempts at regaining peace within his country, which has been locked in a brutal civil war for over five decades. He has spent the last few years of his presidency making a deal with the rebel group that has opposed him during this war, but the deal, which came to a vote a few weeks ago, did not pass. The government and the rebels are currently in a ceasefire, but it is about to end, which means a new deal must be made, and quickly.
